Toyota 5th Generation Hybrid System Explained

The 5th generation Toyota hybrid system is specially designed to increase the overall efficiency of the vehicle. Precise calibration, transaxle design and an efficient hybrid system deliver customers with improved driving experience.

Design of Hybrid System

Toyota’s hybrid 5th generation system has a compact design and is lighter in weight, which helps the system maintain efficiency. This efficiently designed system is accompanied by a new Power Control Unit (PCU) that helps reduce electrical losses, resulting in higher fuel economy. Moreover, the system operates at a higher frequency, reducing its noise level and vibrations.

This time, Toyota installed the PCU and motor generator directly above the car axle to increase fuel efficiency and performance. Additionally, new winding technology, low-viscosity oil, smaller gears, and lighter differentials are also used to support the new hybrid system.

Hybrid Battery System

Contrary to the batteries used previously, the 5th generation hybrid batteries are 14% lighter in weight and produce more output. Furthermore, an advanced cooling system for the hybrid car battery to avoid deterioration caused due to temperature fluctuations.

Performance of 5th Generation Hybrid System

The Toyota hybrid fifth generation system is paired with two engine variants, 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre engines. With 1.8 litres, the system produces a total of 140 hp (138 bhp), enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.2 seconds.
